Christian Education

christian Education

Christian Education is an integral part of the life of any Christian.

Kids' Club

Kid's Club is an hour-long Sunday morning activity for kids ages 3.5-eigth grade.  Students participate in age-specific Bible circles, in which all grades study, play, and do activities about a common Bible story. They also enjoy arts enrichment, including music, drama, creative writing, and visual arts. Often, we create art or participate in activities related to mission and service, or prepare for roles in worship as well.

Youth Group

Youth Group for students in grades 6-12 meets 1-2 Sunday evenings per month for supper, games, conversation, hanging out, service and mission projects, and discussion of what it means to have faith and be part of a church family.  Often we meet as part of the Community Youth Group sponsored by downtown Lexington churches and hosted in rotation.  Typically, meetings are at the supper hour (5:30-7:00), but the schedule shifts by activity.

Senior High Youth Lunch Out

Held first Sundays, involves students in grades 9-12 who are interested in eating together after the 11:00 a.m. worship service. We pick a restaurant within walking distance of the church and enjoy fellowship and faith reflection over lunch.

Adult Sunday School

  • Men’s Study - Rm D-5: This fall, the group will read and discuss the book Holy Envy by Barbara Brown Taylor.
  • Theology - Rm D-1: This fall the group will read and discuss Douglas Ottati’s Living Faith: A Short Introduction to the Christian Faith.
  • Koinonia - Parlor/Library (Room 111): This group will read books from the following list– (1) Poverty, By America – Matthew Desmond; (2) Hungering in the Dark – Frederick Buechner; and (3) The Universal Christ – Richard Rohr.
  • Ask, Seek, Knock - Dunlap Auditorium.: This discussion-centered, non-book-based class takes its name from Psalm 34:8: “Taste and see that the Lord is good, and blessed are those who take refuge in God.” The class is co-led by all of its participants, and delves into the joy and struggle of witnessing God’s work in our lives and community.

Lecto Divina

Each week, a group of LexPres friends gathers for the practice of Lectio Divina, a prayerful immersion in scripture in which the text is read several times. Observing a practice of silence after each reading allows the Word to speak in minds and hearts, enriching the conversation that follows.

Lectio begins at 10:00 a.m. each Tuesday and continues for about an hour. All adults are welcome.  The group meets both in person in Room 113 and on Zoom.

Women’s Bible Study – Ruth: From Hopelessness to Hesed (Mercy)

Two women, on their own and in desperate straits, take to the road together in a time of famine, hoping to survive. No – it’s not the plot of Thelma and Louise!

It’s the beginning of the remarkable book of Ruth, an Old Testament story of mercy lost, sought, and found. If you have ever felt hopeless – for yourself, your family, your community, or the world – the chronicle of Naomi and her daughter-in-law Ruth will resonate, stretch, comfort, and challenge you. Join us for a 5-session study of this book of the Bible:  discussion will be based straight from the scripture- nothing additional to read.

The group will meet Mondays:  Feb. 19, Feb. 26, Mar. 4, March 11, March 18 at 7pm to 8:45pm.   Contact Sandra Hayslette for questions.
