christian Education

Christian Education is an integral part of the life of any Christian.

Explore Lex Pres

Are you new to Lex Pres and interested in knowing what we believe, who we are, and where we hope to go? Are you someone who has attended worship for years but would like to hear what it would look like to make a more formal commitment to this community through membership? Or do you just want to meet some new people around lively discussions of faith and what it means to be Presbyterian?

If you answered yes (or maybe, or even probably not) to any of these questions, I hope you will consider signing up for Exploring LexPres classes led by Drew Ditzel. The date and time will be determined by what works best for those interested in attending. While this is the primary step toward joining LexPres, there is no expectation that one will join the church upon finishing the class. It is truly a chance to explore together what it means to be God’s people.Questions? Interested? Want to sign up? Email Drew (drditzel@lexpres.org).

Kids' Club

We are seeking adventurers from age 3.5 through 8th grade for Kids Club/Youth Class 2.0, the 2024 version of LexPres’ Bible-story-centered, Sunday morning learning, playing, and arts experience. Come explore the Old Testament with us each Sunday from 9:45-10:45 starting Sept. 15. This year’s big questions: who were the people of the Bible in the generations before Jesus? What was God doing, and how did the people see and feel God’s love?

Youth Group

Youth Group for students in grades 6-12 meets 1-2 Sunday evenings per month for supper, games, conversation, hanging out, service and mission projects, and discussion of what it means to have faith and be part of a church family.  Often we meet as part of the Community Youth Group sponsored by downtown Lexington churches and hosted in rotation.  Typically, meetings are at the supper hour (5:30-7:00), but the schedule shifts by activity.

Senior High Youth Lunch Out

Held first Sundays, involves students in grades 9-12 who are interested in eating together after the 11:00 a.m. worship service. We pick a restaurant within walking distance of the church and enjoy fellowship and faith reflection over lunch.

Adult Sunday School Begins September 15, 2024

Ask Seek Knock - For the past few years, the ASK class has been using video series from The Great Courses. Each lecture is half an hour, leaving us another half-hour for discussion each Sunday. Currently, we are viewing a series about the history of Christianity, from the Reformation to the Modern Megachurch. As we begin the fall,
we will be ready to view the lecture titled “The Church and the Scientific Revolution,”a topic that is easy to grab hold of and talk about. You don’t need any background to enter into this fascinating series, so come join us to learn about how the church evolved into what it is today. ASK meets in Room 113.

Koinonia - This class is a group of ordinary people of faith seeking to strengthen our spiritual growth through fellowship and conversation. We pursue God’s grace, what it means, and how it impacts our daily lives through resources available to us. We hope to encourage each other on our spiritual journey towards God. Koinonia meets in Room 111.

Men’s Sunday School Class - The Men's Sunday School Class was formed to promote discipleship, learning, and fellowship. Ours is a discussion class with members of the class rotating responsibility for facilitating discussion. We focus on books, videos, and other resources. We are open to all men regardless of age or
background. The Men’s class meets in Room D-5.

Scripture and Doughnut - Grab a doughnut, open the Bible, and talk. It’s that simple. Join this new class of confessed non-bible experts wrestling with how God’s words encourages us to live our everyday life. S&D meets in Dunlap Auditorium.

Starting Points - This new class will provide an introductory overview and discussion around various Christian practices and beliefs. It is designed for people to attend by topic, for a season, or a one off Sunday. The first “Starting Point” topic will be on prayer and facilitated by Drew for several weeks. Starting Points meets in D1 (the Museum Room across from the Kitchen).

Weekday Discipleship Opportunities

Lectio Divina - The friendly folks at Lectio Divina are eager to accept new participants, either online (Zoom) or in person  (Room 113) every Tuesday morning from 10-11a.m. We contemplate and discuss the week’s Bible selection. It’s a cherished time to slow down, listen, and share as desired. No experience or special Bible knowledge required. Check the weekly newsletter for the zoom link.

Leah Ruth Circle - The Leah Ruth Circle is a spiritually uplifting fellowship of Christian women. The women support each other through fellowship, Bible study/devotion, prayer, and service to the church and community. They affirm women's calls to leadership and spiritual growth, raise concerns, and channel information throughout the church. This group meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 1:00 p.m. in Brady Chapel. All women are welcome!

Men’s Bible Study - All men are welcome to attend this morning study the second and fourth Thursday of the month. We will begin at 8 a.m. with a hard stop at 9 a.m. We will meet in Brady Chapel, with our first meeting on Sept. 26th. This study will be facilitated by Drew (initially) and is designed to be a meaningful gathering for both
infrequent and consistent attendees.
