Planned Giving

A planned gift is arranged in the present and allocated for a future date. Commonly donated through a will or trust, planned gifts are most often granted once the donor has passed away. From a fiscal perspective, the tax breaks are a significant advantage to making a planned giving arrangement. A planned gift can also ensure you have the opportunity to determine exactly how your money should be spent within the church. Many would prefer to give major gifts during their lifetime but don’t have the financial flexibility to do so. Planned giving allows donors to give those large gifts after they have passed away, when life's challenges won’t interfere. Some options for planned giving are:

  • Stocks
  • Donor advised fund
  • Bequests
  • Retirement plans
  • Life insurance

Memorials

In designating gifts in lieu of flowers, families are encouraged to consider designating one of the funds listed below.

General Policy

The Church’s ENDOWMENT POLICY provides guidelines for receiving, investing, and disbursing endowment funds and reserve operating funds held for emergencies and long-term needs. In 1999 the Administrative Committee received approval of Session to utilize the Vanguard fund group beginning in 1999. The committee may, with the concurrence of Session, utilize other mutual funds based on the committee’s evaluation of appropriateness.

The Church’s Administrative Committee specifies the spending allotment from each fund for the coming year. Such allotment is a percentage of the fund balance based on the average at the end of the three most recent years.
