William McCorkle plays the C. B. Fisk pipe organ, opus 128 (2007)
W. Eugene Thayer: Allegro Maestoso

A leading American organist of his time, W. Eugene Thayer (1838-1889) was born in Mendon, Massachusetts, and studied with the great John Knowles Paine at Harvard. After some years of study in Germany, Thayer returned to this country and served a number of churches in Boston, and New York’s Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church. An influential teacher and prolific composer, Thayer was known as a virtuoso performer, touring widely around the country, in this time of the flowering of pipe organ building and performance in the United States.

Today’s organ offering is a short festive work by Thayer, an appropriate celebration for this Independence Day weekend.
This work is in the public domain.
