Welcome Rev. Thomas Groome!

Welcome Rev. Thomas Groome!

Rev. Thomas Groome has accepted our invitation to serve as Transitional Pastor of Lexington Presbyterian Church.  Rev. Groome and his wife Leslie plan to arrive in Lexington in mid-September after a six-weeks’ vacation at their home in Fulton, Mississippi.  Recently, Tom served as interim pastor at Presbyterian churches in Fairfield, CT and Lexington, KY.  His previous calls were at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg, SC from 1998-2006 and First Presbyterian Church, Tupelo, MS from 2006-2016.

A lifelong Presbyterian, Tom grew up in Vicksburg, MS and attended Louisiana State University, where he met Leslie. Following graduation from LSU, Tom worked as an account executive for Merrill Lynch and then managed the Data Processing and Check Processing Departments for the Federal Reserve Bank in New Orleans.  Tom and Leslie have three grown children and two grandchildren.  Leslie is a CPA and works remotely with a firm in Tupelo, MS.

The Presbyterian ministry is a second career for Tom.  He attended Columbia Theological Seminary, Decatur, GA from 1995-1998 before receiving his first call in Spartanburg, SC.  Tom and Leslie both enjoy traveling the USA and took a one-month Sabbatical in 2015 to visit nine National Parks in the Western U.S. Tom’s hobbies include hiking, woodwork and reading, particularly about the Revolutionary War, the Founding Generation, and the Civil War.  He is an avid sports and SEC football fan.

The Groomes visited Lexington in late July to tour the church and meet with Kelly-Ann Rayle, Bill McCorkle, and Skip Hess.  They also toured Lexington and found a rental property just two doors down from the former manse on Jefferson St.  They are excited to begin their residence in Lexington and look forward to getting to know the congregation, the town and the Rockbridge County region.

The Interim Pastor Search Committee of Lexington Presbyterian Church was chaired by Rob Fure.  Serving on the Committee were Doug Caldwell, Treasurer; Larry Wiese, Secretary; Megan Hobbs; Susan Lemert; Ron Orendorf; and Robin Telsch.  After reviewing 28 candidates and interviewing three finalists, the Committee selected Rev. Groome unanimously.

Rev. Groome’s office hours will be announced separately.
