Special Collections

There are numerous organizations supported by the congregation at Lexington Presbyterian Church. Some of these are seasonal, e.g. The Joy Offering and the Jesse Tree at Christmas. Others are suggested in response to unexpected disasters. Please look below for more on these opportunities for assistance and outreach.

4¢-a-Meal

This offering, which supplies in part the Presbyterian Hunger Program, is collected on the first Sunday of each month.

Church World Service

CWS Poster The Church World Service TOOLS OF HOPE & BLANKET Program creates a rainbow of caring: providing help and hope each time the right tool is placed in the hands of people in need. Disasters and emergencies of all kinds demand many resources to assist in recovery. Gifts of the TOOLS OF HOPE & BLANKET Program provide needed resources to give families and individuals a little comfort as they are displaced from their homes. Sturdy, warm blankets, tents, ground sheets, plastic tarps offer a shelter in the time of 'storm' whether natural or man-made. And, once the emergency needs are met, the right tool is needed to help people on the road to recovery.

TOOLS OF HOPE can also be ordinary things and things that we often take for granted like ... fishing nets ... clean water ... education ... small-enterprise loans ... garden tools ... seeds and things which can make a world of difference for people devastated by tragedy, as well as those working to build a better life for themselves and their communities.

In the 2008 offering our church contributed $1,492.

One Great Hour of Sharing

OGHS Logo

Since 1949, Presbyterians have joined with millions of other Christians through One Great Hour of Sharing to share God's love with people experiencing need. Our gifts support ministries of disaster response, refugee assistance and resettlement, and community development that help people find safe refuge, start new lives, and work together to strengthen their families and communities.

Recognizing that the hope we have in Christ is lived out in our hope for one another, we respond with gifts that help our sisters and brothers around the world find the hope for a brighter future.

OGHS funds are used for the Presbyterian Hunger Program, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, and Self-Development of People. For more information, visit http://www.pcusa.org/oghs.

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance.

PDA Logo Presbyterian Disaster Assistance enables congregations and mission partners of the Presbyterian Church (USA) to witness to the healing love of Christ through caring for communities adversely affected by crisis and catastrophic events.

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is the emergency and refugee program of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. Its core budget, including staff and administrative costs, is funded through the One Great Hour of Sharing, and its program work is additionally funded through designated gifts.

Information on current response teams is available at www.pcusa.org/pda.
