Friends in Need

This program is run by the Congregational Life Committee that provides meals for congregation members in times of need such as a recent birth, death, or major illness.

It is very important that needs for meals are communicated directly to our program coordinators, Alice Correll and Mary Beth Baker, or to Lila Rogers in the church office.

We are pleased to have been able to help out more congregation members in the past year, but it also means that we have been calling on our pool of talent more often. If you aren't on our list (or you haven't been called recently), please be sure to give Alice Correll a call so that she can add you to the list used to coordinate meals. This is a mission that is greatly appreciated by the recipients. Many thanks to all who help out!

Helping Hands

The Helping Hands group meets in the Westfel Lounge from 10:00am-2:00pm on the first Monday of each month, October through April, to sew for Church World Service. Bring a sandwich for lunch. If you can't stay, come pick up items to take home to work on there.

We are working on receiving blankets, baby gowns and stuffed animals for hospitalized children. These items are sent to missions abroad as well as in the USA.

For more information on Church World Service, click here.

If you cannot join us and would like to help, we are always in need of white thread, flannel, light weight cotton fabric, used (in good condition) twin or double sheets and twin or double summer weight thermal blankets. Baby hats are also always needed.

Leave any items on the PW table near the Ladies Lounge downstairs in Murray Hall.

Call Ellen Smith for more information.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Knitting yarn The Prayer Shawl Ministry makes beautiful shawls to give to those who might need a little comfort from others.

Meetings are twice a month on the second and fourth Tuesday from 7:30 to 9:00pm in Murray Hall Room 124, which is between the library and Bill Klein's office. You don't need to come every time; just come when you can.  At every meeting we enjoy the beauty of the colors of yarns and pattern choices of the completed shawls. As we finish one shawl, we talk about "the next one."

Beth Jewell has put together a booklet of prayers from Prayer Shawls Ministries and this is wrapped with each shawl that is presented. Hearing the grateful reaction from recipients of the shawls warms our hearts and motivates us to keep knitting.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry is for knitters and crocheters of all skill levels. If you don't know how to knit, come learn. If you want help refreshing those long-ago memories of when you first learned to knit, people will help you. Yarn, needles, and crochet hooks to make a shawl will be available to purchase. Beth has printed out a variety of free patterns to choose for making a shawl.

There are several people who have come by to get yarn and select a pattern to knit at home. Let us know if you would like to do so also, and we will arrange for you to get the supplies and pattern.

If you have questions about the Prayer Shawl Ministry, talk to Beth Jewell, Michael Lynn, or Dianne Herrick.

Tape Ministry

Volunteers deliver audio tapes of the 11:00 worship service to any of our members who are unable to attend worship on a regular basis for whatever reason: a new baby, prolonged illness, recovery from surgery, etc. Call the church office if you need to receive tapes or if you are available to deliver them.
