Friends in Need Meals

The Congregational Life Committee provides meals for congregation members in times of need such as a recent birth, death, or major illness. We match the schedules of those who have volunteered to provide and deliver food with that of the intended recipient.

Often, a Church member will identify a need and contact our coordinators. We are careful to respect food restrictions and individual needs. Sometimes a Circle or Sunday School group members will actually arrange the meal among their members. Often there are a series of deliveries over a period of time.

If you wish to volunteer to provide meals as needed or are aware of a need, it is important that you communicate directly with our program coordinators, Mary Raine Paxton, Marian Rohne and Suzanne Noonan, or to Lila Rogers in the church office.

Prayer Chain Prayer chain

The Prayer Chain is made up of a group of dedicated people who have committed to pray faithfully for members of our congregation and their immediate families in times of need. When someone makes a specific request for prayer about an illness or operation, a death in the family, or other crisis, the prayer chain goes into action to lift those concerns up to God.

We are always happy to have new members so contact Barbara Joyner at 463-4460.

Prayer Shawl Ministry Knitting yarn

The Prayer Shawl Ministry makes beautiful shawls to give to those who might need a little comfort from others. During their first two years, caring hands knit and crocheted well over 100 prayer shawls and afghans.

We meet twice a month, on the second and fourth Tuesday from 7:30 to 9:00pm, in Murray Hall Room 124, which is between the library and Bill Klein's office. You don't need to come every time; just come when you can. At every meeting we enjoy the beauty of the colors of yarns and pattern choices of the completed shawls. As we finish one shawl, we talk about "the next one."

Beth Jewell has put together a booklet of prayers from Prayer Shawls Ministries and this is wrapped with each shawl that we have presented. Hearing the grateful reaction from recipients of the shawls warms our hearts and motivates us to keep knitting.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry is for knitters and crocheters of all skill levels. If you don't know how to knit, come learn. If you want help refreshing those long-ago memories of when you first learned to knit, people will help you. Yarn, needles, and crochet hooks to make a shawl will be available to purchase and Beth has printed out a variety of free patterns to choose for making a shawl.

There are several people who come by to get yarn and select a pattern to knit at home. Let us know if you would like to do so also, and we will arrange for you to get the supplies and pattern.

If you have questions about the Prayer Shawl Ministry, talk to Beth Jewell, Michael Lynn, or Dianne Herrick.

CD Ministry CD Ministry

Members who are unable to attend worship on a regular basis for any reason may request CDs of the 11:00 worship service.

We are always seeking volunteers who can assist in coordinating this program, operating the sound and recording equipment during the service, making CDs or delivering them to the recipients.

Please call the church office if you need to receive CDs or if you are available to help in any way.
