The
Presbyterian Church (USA) and Lexington Presbyterian welcome women into all
areas of ministry. Nevertheless the Presbyterian Women (PW) organization
provides a special place for sharing, caring and service. We have an active
PW group at LexPres and we invite you to discover more about us in the
information on this page.

We, being many, are one in Christ Jesus.
WE CELEBRATE OUR DIVERSITY
when it leads to disagreement,
we will listen and we will speak with caring.
WE CELEBRATE OUR INDIVIDUALITY
where we are strong, we will participate fully;
where are weak,
we will rejoice in the strength of our sisters and brothers.
WE CELEBRATE OUR RESPONSIBILITY
when it leads to work,
we will do it in cooperation with others.
WE CELEBRATE THE WHOLENESS OF THE CHURCH
where it is fractured,
we will work for reconciliation.
WE CELEBRATE THE WHOLENESS OF THE EARTH
where its God-given beauty and harmony are threatened,
we will be partners in restoration.
WE CELEBRATE THE WHOLENESS OF PERSONS
where persons are broken or their uniqueness denied,
we will be agents of healing.
| Therefore, we will | trust | ... and listen |
| grow | ... and listen | |
| share | ... and listen | |
| love | ... and listen | |
| learn | ... and listen | |
| serve | ... and listen | |
| celebrate | ... and listen | |
| ... TOGETHER | ||
| AMEN |
Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, we commit ourselves: to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study, to support the mission of the church worldwide, to work for justice and peace, and to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (USA) and witnesses to the promise of God's kingdom.
All women who choose to participate in, or be supportive of, Presbyterian Women in any way.
Most Lexington Presbyterian women will choose to be members of regular circles, small groups that gather regularly September through May for Bible study and fellowship. In addition, there may be service groups which meet for specific service (the Helping Hands sewing group, for example) and special interest groups which bring together individuals with particular interests (art and needle work, church decoration, exercise classes, for example).
In September the Presbyterian Women's organization hosts a tea for all women in the congregation as well as visitors. In May the annual Birthday Luncheon is held at which officers for the coming year are installed and women chosen for life membership are recognized. All women are invited to the luncheon.
The Coordinating Team is made up of moderator, co-moderator secretary, treasurer, historian, circle representatives, and six committee members-at-large. They meet on the first Thursday of September, December, March and May to coordinate the work of Presbyterian Women. Job descriptions of these officers are adopted by the search committee, subject to modification by the Coordinating Team. The moderator, co-moderator, treasurer, historian and at least two-thirds of the Coordinating team members shall be Presbyterians.
The search committee presents names of women to be elected to the Coordinating Team for a vote in May by the entire membership of Presbyterian Women. The moderator shall serve a one-year term. Each year a new co-moderator is elected to serve a one year term at the end of which she moves to the position of moderator. All other Coordinating Team members are expected to serve for two years, beginning after their installation, unless filling out the term of another woman who has resigned. Ideally, to provide continuity, one-half of the Coordinating Team shall continue and one-half rotate off each year. After the election of the slate of new officers, their names shall be, presented to the Session for its information.
Women are encouraged to contribute to the budget of Presbyterian Women, adopted annually, which supports community, presbytery, and worldwide mission activities. The fiscal year of Presbyterian Women shall be from June 1 through May 31.
Presbyterian Women are encouraged to take part in presbytery and ecumenical fellowship and activities. The Coordinating Team, through the moderator, works closely with the Maury River Mission Community's enabler.
The moderator shall appoint a committee each year to serve with the historian in considering the names of persons to receive honorary life memberships in the Presbyterian Women. In deciding on persons deserving of this honor, the purpose of the Presbyterian Women should be kept in mind. An individual does not have to be a member of the Presbyterian Women but the honor should be given in recognition of faithful service in some area of the church's work for a number of dedicated years. Men as well as women may be considered.
Anyone wishing to have the committee consider a person for this honor, should give the historian a written statement of how the particular person meets the guideline. Things to be considered: participation in the prayer chain or in regular Bible study group; active involvement in community and/or the Church's worldwide mission; work to promote peace and justice; building a supportive, caring community of women to strengthen the Lexington Presbyterian Church; participation in presbytery or synod conferences and committees; promotion of the Word of God and a life which sets a good example for all.
The Coordinating Team consists of the PW officers and representatives of each circle. It meets six times a year for planning and communication.
