There are a number of current needs in the church. Some are for time, some are for donated materials. Some may require an ongoing time commitment, others may be a one-time effort. Please review these and prayerfully consider where God is calling you to be His hands and feet.

If you have a couple of hours a month, please consider helping with the Thantastic Thursday meals. We need help with preparation (Weds. 10-2), set-up (Thurs. 12-3 and 3-6), and clean up (Thurs. 6 - 8:30 pm). If you can just take one day a month and we spread the work out among many of us, it will be a sustainable ministry. We are hoping that this program will help reconnect many of our own members, attract young families and others from the community. There are several sign-up sheets around the church or speak to Mary Beth Baker about how you can serve the church in this program.
The Children's Subcommittee is seeking volunteers to help with the nursery and with our children's programs for Thantastic Thursdays. If this is something of interest and you're being called to do, please contact Sarah Hill. Curriculum and activities will be provided for you, we just need a few good volunteers to spread their joy and cheer with the wonderful children of our congregation.
Consider donating a coffee mug or two to LexPres. Now that the renovations to Murray Hall are complete and coffee fellowship is resumed, let us resolve in the new year to take advantage of the new kitchenette adjacent to the chapel and reduce our use of disposable cups. As part of our ongoing effort to promote responsible stewardship and conscientious creation care, the Planning Committee encourages you to bring a ceramic coffee mug from home and leave it after coffee fellowship.
Helping Hands is seeking light weight flannel. It would be greatly appreciated. The table in the hallway leading to Dunlap Auditorium is now ready for use. There is the basket for completed items, patterns and the basket of yarn. A new pattern for a small knitted doll is also there.
The Campus Ministry Committee is looking for any individuals who are interested in working with the campus ministry program at our church. Our ministry includes programs for VMI and W&L, as well as LPC students who are studying at other colleges. We're always looking for new ideas as well! If you have an interest in being a part of this dedicated ministry, we'd love to have you; please contact Cynthia Hintze (463-7825).
Our nursery has been blessed with several new babies and toddlers this summer. We have two paid staff and are recruiting youth and adults to help them. If anyone would like to be added to our Nursery Helper list, please contact Margie Page. The nursery is staffed from 9:30-12:15 each Sunday.
We are seeking those interested in helping with the "building" of the Faith Village for our new approach to elementary Church School. We will start this program in January 2012. We need those who are artistic and those who can paint by number. We also need carpenters and technicians. We need teachers and shepherds. The classes will be taught in a four-week rotation model, exploring one Bible story or concept in four different ways over the four weeks. The rotations might include storytelling, drama, puppets, video, art, music, cooking, photography, archeology, astrology - actually the possibilities are endless. All we need are people who care about the religious education of our children and how we can truly immerse our young people in the Biblical stories. Talk with Sarah Hill about how you can be a part of making the Bible stories come alive.
