Habitat for Humanity Disciples Build

Volunteers needed for Habitat Disciples Build beginning in April.

Lexington Presbyterian Church has joined a partnership of local churches, Rockbridge Area Habitat for Humanity, and the Pat Camden family to construct a house in Buena Vista which will become the Camden home. This project, known as a Disciples Build, involves twenty or more churches in Rockbridge County, Buena Vista, and Lexington. Groundbreaking occurred on Sunday, April 6, 2008.

The house is located at 600 Long Hollow Road.

Our church's effort is being coordinated by Mac Baker. He is seeking volunteers 16 and over. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! Our work day is Saturday afternoons from 1:15 -- 5:00 pm beginning in April. All tools are provided. We'll be working with members of other area churches. If you can help on Saturdays during April, May, June, and July, please contact Mac at 463-9563 or bakerjm@vmi.edu. No experience is necessary!

The Session has also committed $2500 for the Disciples Build and has issued a challenge to the congregation to match that amount. If you would like to contribute, checks may be made payable to Lexington Presbyterian Church with a designation that it is for the Disciples Build.

Habitat has some special rules mandated by safety concerns that apply to young workers. Volunteers from 16 to 18 are welcome but may not use power tools. There will be special Youth Days -- for ages 5-16 -- on the work site on the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 4:00 until 6:00. There will be adult supervision of all youth volunteers.

Prayerfully consider becoming involved as a volunteer in this Disciples Build and put your Faith into Action.
