Planning Committee Report to Session

February 2008

The Planning Committee:

  • Provides long-range thinking and planning for all church activities;
  • Crovides initial program development and coordinates implementation by the appropriate committee;
  • conducts periodic Session retreats;
  • Coordinates assignments that cross over committees; and
  • Provides for the smooth transition in the leadership of the standing committees of Session.

Committee Membership:

  • Michael Tschantz (chair),
  • George Bent (Vice Chair),
  • Bruce King,
  • Joe Irby,
  • Paul Miller, and
  • David Peterson

The April 29,2006 "Task Force on the Life of the Church, Summary Report from Session Retreat" provided a list of recommended items for the committees to investigate and develop plans for implementation. Each committee was encouraged to develop a plan to be submitted to the Planning Committee by December 1, 2006.

The Planning Committee's focus in 2007 and continuing through 2008 is to steer the committees to address the issues identified in the 2006 Report and develop a list of priorities and a plan for implementation. To facilitate the process, representatives from the Planning Committee are meeting with the chairs to receive a progress update to the plan and to offer assistance in implementing change and planning for the future. The result from these meetings will be a report that will not only serve as a progress report, but more importantly will provide a unified vision for the future and a working plan to get there.

Specific issues the Planning Committee will be continuing to address include:

  • Continue to compile the long-term mission and program goals for LPC based on the "Life of the Church Report."
  • Incorporate new mission and program goals into long-term planning.
  • Provide assistance to the committees to ensure the goals set forth by the Session are being addressed.
  • Compile financial forecasts and cost estimates for program goals to be used in establishing long-term priorities and fiscal planning by Session.
  • Coordinate with the Nominating Committee to ensure committee leadership is consistently planned and developed.
